How to Beat Golden Hippopotamus

Tips for Beating Golden Hippopotamus

Stay Close to the Golden Hippo

Avoid Using Consecutive Attack Strings

Increase Your Physical Resistance

Stay Close to the Golden Hippo

The Golden Hippopotamus has several moves that can quickly close the gap between it and the player. It's highly recommended to avoid running away from it if you wish to restore your HP or apply buffs.

Wait for Its Horn Swing Before Healing

The Golden Hippopotamus has a move that makes it rear then swing its horn upwards. After using this move, the Golden Hippopotamus will reposition itself away from you. Use this time to heal up, apply buffs, or use items before re-entering close quarter combat.

Avoid Using Consecutive Attack Strings

The Golden Hippo does not use multiple combo moves on its own but it has an extremely short time interval between its attacks. Limit yourself to only attacking once or twice before preparing to dodge or block again.

Increase Your Physical Resistance

Despite the Golden Hippopotamus being capable of using Sacred attacks, you'll instead want to pump up your physical resistance. Talismans such as the Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman can greatly reduce the boss' damage output.

FAQs

Golden Hippopotamus Location and How to Beat | Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree|Game8? ›

Infront of the Shadowkeep Gate

How to beat the golden hippopotamus in Elden Ring? ›

The general rule of thumb for this entire fight is to stay away from its head. The Golden Hippo is huge which means you can deal plenty of damage from the sides, but it can also spin fairly quickly and change its target.

What is a golden hippo weak to? ›

A Tear that's +6 or higher, with a Revered Spirit Ash level of four or higher, can take down the Golden Hippopotamus almost entirely on its own. Black Knife Tiche, the Nightmaiden and Swordmistress Puppets, and Swordmaster Yosh are strong alternatives capable of keeping the Hippo busy while you attack it.

How to dodge golden hippopotamus? ›

Dodge roll away from the impact, then dodge roll again to avoid the blast of needles. You can quickly get some attacks in as he is standing back up. Watch carefully, keep calm, and never panic roll! Keep up the steady counterattacks until the hippo is defeated.

What is malenia weak against Elden Ring? ›

Malenia is weak to Fire attacks, Bleed status effects, and weapons. Malenia is most vulnerable to Fire attacks and has less resistance to Bleed attacks than she does to most status effects.

What are the hardest Elden Ring endings to get? ›

The most difficult ending to achieve in Elden Ring is the Lord of Frenzied Flame ending.

Who can win against hippo? ›

Elephants possess sharp tusks and a powerful trunk that can deliver a forceful blow, making them a formidable opponent for even the mighty hippo.

How do you get star punches on King hippo? ›

Block a right jab and Hippo will drop his hands, leaving himself vulnerable to a quick left punch from Mac. Tag him with this punch after blocking Hippo's attack and you'll earn a star. Alternatively, you can dodge Hippo's attack and follow with a head jab to stun him, and then with a body blow to continue the combo.

What does golden hippopotamus drop? ›

Defeating the Golden Hippopotamus will reward players with Aspects of the Crucible: Thorns and x2 Scadutree Fragments, and allow further exploration of Shadow Keep.

How fast can a hippo win? ›

On average, hippos can run at speeds of around 19–28 miles per hour (30–45 kilometers per hour). That might not sound very fast compared to, say, a cheetah, which can run at speeds of up to 75 miles per hour (120 kilometers per hour), but it's still pretty impressive when you consider how large and heavy hippos are.

What is the easiest way to beat malenia Elden Ring? ›

The Bloodhound's Step Ash of War is ridiculously good against Malenia as it lets players phase through her rapid moveset with ease, including the dreaded Waterfowl Dance. It's well worth respeccing to use this Ash of War when having a lot of trouble against this boss.

Is malenia the hardest in Elden Ring? ›

She's largely seen as the toughest boss in Elden Ring and a prestige fight for most Tarnished playthroughs.
