Before starting Shadow of the Erdtree, I recommend raising your character up to at least Level 125, and ideally, Level 150.

If you want to know what level you should be for Shadow of the Erdtree in Elden Ring, then you need to be at least around 150 before heading in to this DLC.

First, FromSoftware recommends players have their characters reach level 120-150 before attempting the DLC.

Also, because we know that Shadow of the Erdtree is designed as late-game content, playing it on NG+ will make it substantially harder, and you'll have to tackle it without the benefit of any guides at launch because it might take a month or two for those to get published by the community.

To be clear, there is no official level requirement for playing the DLC. All you really need to do is beat two bosses — Radahn and Mohg — to access Shadow of the Erdtree.

The DLC scales linearly with your level, so players were in for a rude awakening. According to Washington Post reporter Gene Park, even a maxed-out level 713 character in Elden Ring won't be able to breeze through the DLC.

With the DLC, other reviewers have suggested that its difficulty is too extreme. “It's true that this distinct type of FromSoft-engineered frustration is an indispensable part of the Souls experience,” wrote Alexis Ong in Eurogamer. “This, however, feels like difficulty for difficulty's sake, turned up to eleven.”

The Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is receiving the same complaints as every other FromSoft game — it's too hard. Demon's Souls, the Dark Souls trilogy and Elden Ring are all beloved for their punishing-yet-rewarding gameplay, but many find the unrelenting difficulty to be more frustrating than fun.

After you've defeated both Radahn and Mohg, either in a 3-4 hours using the “quick” methods listed above or in 40+ hours using the longer methods, all you need to do to access the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC content is touch the withered arm hanging out of the cocoon in the area in which you defeated Mohg.

You have to accept Melina's accord in Elden Ring if you want to level up and get your horse. While suspicion is wise in a FromSoftware game, you really have to say yes here. Because without her, you'll be cut off from some crucial tools.

If you're playing the DLC, you should already have access to this as it's obtained by trading the Remembrance dropped by Mohg, Lord of Blood (one of the two big foes who must be defeated to start Shadow of the Erdtree) with Enia at the Roundtable Hold.

The recommended level for the Draconic Tree Sentinel outside Leyndell is 60 at least, ideally 65+ with weapons of +10 or more.

You should be at least level 120 or higher before challenging Malenia. Grind in the dungeon if you've not quite reached those lofty heights yet. Make sure you're taking a high-level weapon into battle as well, ideally nothing lower than 22.

To be more specific, you can acquire these Scadutree Fragments via visiting hornsent statues, defeating certain tough enemies, and even bosses, so make sure you're exploring every part of the Shadow Realm. Once you secure yourself some Fragments, simply head to a Grace and level up within.
