I have been trying to get dri enabled with my i810 forabout 2 weeks now.I am currently using XFree86 4.2.0, kernel 2.4.18, andthe 2002-03-20 binary drivers. I originally began with> Debian potato w/XFree86 4.1.0. Hello! I have the _same_ problem, but with a i815 chipset. It is thevideo chip that comes with my Dell Inspiron 2500 laptop, and I have seenin the list archives that another person has had trouble with the sameconfiguration. I too have XFree 4.2.0, Linux Kernel 2.4.18 and the DRM drivers fromdri.sf.net (the ones in the kernel where for X 4.1.0, and they didn'twork). The resolution in 640x480, depth 16bpp, so no problems here. Also,it is important to note that in 24bpp DRI is _not_ enabled, and the logsshow that. In this config, however, the logs show DRI to be enabled...And glxinfo also reports trying to open/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri/i810_dri.so, which exists and has thepermissions ok. However, according to the same glxinfo, DRI is _NOT_ enabled:> name of display: :0.0> libGL: XF86DRIGetClientDriverName: 1.1.0 i810 (screen 0)> libGL: OpenDriver: trying> /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri/i810_dri.so> libGL: OpenDriver: trying> /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri/i810_dri.so> drmOpenByBusid: busid is PCI:0:1:0> drmOpenDevice: minor is 0> drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0> drmOpenDevice: open result is 4, (OK)> drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns 4> drmOpenByBusid: drmGetBusid reports PCI:0:1:0> display: :0 screen: 0> direct rendering: No^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^> OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect> OpenGL version string: 1.2 Mesa 3.4.2 This shows up when running programs like cage/atlantis, whichobviously are not accelerated. Another problem, which I think may be related: when enabling ACPI inthe kernel, everything works (well, more or less) as I've explainedabove. But if I disable ACPI (not compiled or acpi=off at lilo prompt),and instead I compile APM or no PM at all, X simply _freezes_, bringingthe system down with it, every time I try starting it in 16bpp (so withDRI enabled). It doesn't happen in 24bpp, when DRI is disabled.I really hope someone can shed some light upon this... I am willing to aidin debugging this by supplying more information or running any additionaltests, if anyone is interested.Regards,--Mihnea-Costin Grigore [ "Tenebus Ipsilo Ibinem Catehens" ]E-mail: mg...@to... What about permissions on /dev/dri/card0? Is it set up where your userhas both read and write permissions to it? It seems that this isusually the cause of DRI being enabled in the server, but not workingfor a client. Also, make sure that i810_dri.so is the proper version and being loaded. It appears that it is, but always be certain.Hope that helps-- -StevenIn a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.-- George OrwellHe's alive. However, I also tried running X as a user and setting777 on /dev/dri/*, with the same results.> Also, make sure that i810_dri.so is the proper version and being loaded.> It appears that it is, but always be certain. How can I test the version? The file is dated "Jan 20 (2002) 00:06",like the rest of the XFree86 4.2.0 package. Size is 1441165. It containsthe string "1.2 Mesa 3.4.2", but I don't think that means anything... How can I test that the file is actually being loaded? I think thismay be the problem, but using LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose produces only the"Trying to open /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri/i810_dri.so" message whenrunning glxinfo, without any additional errors/warnings whatsoever.Regards,--Mihnea-Costin Grigore [ "Tenebus Ipsilo Ibinem Catehens" ]E-mail: mg...@to... So, I'm pretty> confused about this. Wish I could help you more.I think there are some error cases where libGL.so just doesn't print anythingout & fails silently. I fixed this on the tcl branch, but that isn't helpingyou. I'll look at doing this on the trunk.Once that's done it will be a little while before a download appears with thenew code in it - otherwise if you're ok compiling from cvs that could bequicker.Keith
